Standing on the AC unit

I can catch a glimpse of the skyline

reflected in windows

of the deserted high school

across the road

There it is, my city of promise!

Of twinkling stars

and deli cats

Honking horns

and martinis

Sweat-drenched subway cars

and that ever-humming, high-speed, inspired sense of

 MOMENTUM

But it’s scary out there now

and not

‘crazy guy in the bodega

                                                                           asking

if he could eat

  my face’

kinda scary…

It’s all too quiet

(except for the pots and pans)

(and sirens)

(not sure yet why that’s when I get up to lock the door)

C’mon, HOME

We’re dying here…

We’ve got this.
