(Jan 2021) Ezy Reading: |
Of course I was surprised
This old cowboy
Doesn’t get much
In the way of visitors no more
In fact-
Last friendly face I saw on the ranch
Was a damned debt collector
About eighteen months back
(and he was only happy because he was finally getting the Buick)
But here you are
A sight for sore eyes
Last saw you at that card table
When whiskey ruined my life
At first, I’ll be honest-
Thought you had to be an apparition
Kinda’ lost myself
Forgot how to greet you
How to shoot the shit
With an old friend
Too much dust bowl living out here
In the middle o’ nowhere
We start to retreat
Just shapes and forms
Melting into the sunset
Where names and stories matter no more
But here you are, damn it
And I’m trynna’ keep it together because I might just burst
For this is an old, old feeling:
My heart feels full
For the first time in years
Ezy Reading is out every month.
