Summer

Don Franks

Sand and salt fill the summer air,

Echoes of laughter blend with the waves.

The shore holds memories heavy with absence,

A shadow cast long by a vanished smile.

Sunlight glints on the water, a cruel jest,

Each step taken alone, searching for a sign.

Grief becomes the tide, ever pulling, never gone.
