Poetry From The Cud:
29th September, 1925
Evangelos Kanarakis

I want not the rays of the sun
To cast glare upon this grave

Nor welcome shade of Cypress
Nor the comforting reach of outstretched Willow

I ask not for scripture and incense
Nor the song of pious psalms

My only wish is that you might harken here one morning
To quench with but one tear this thirsty earth

And bring upon renewal as my name is washed away
Banished from memory, from your heart, and from this soon forgotten grave

Written in 1925 in Paris, France, and translated from the original text in Greek.
