Poetry From The Cud:
I Have A Mate With Three Girls
Lazy Eye

I have a mate with three girls whose dreams for them are bold.
He doesn’t want scholars- he prays for Commonwealth GOLD.

He runs them around the oval to see if they’re athletic.
But the girls just play ‘chaisies’- they’re apathetic.

He quickens the pace when he takes them for a walk.
They just want to go home and draw flowers with chalk.

When it comes to hopscotch he wears a sly smile.
Little do his girls know it’s a long jump trial.

He buys them tennis rackets and buys them cricket bats.
But they’d rather play dress-ups and wear feathers in their hats.

Cycling has potential so all his kids now own bikes.
But the girls prefer a slower pace- they love leisurely hikes.

He hangs a ball from the Hills Hoist to see if the girls can slog.
But they get bored real quick and start playing with the dog.

Swimming is popular but they lack Dawn Fraser charms
It’s shame they can’t race with floaties on their arms.

Poor wife just rolls her eyes and thinks all these efforts lame.
But truth be told, if there’s no victory dais- he’ll love them all the same.
