Scotland And The Spoilers

Mr. Smith is quite right in referring to those 'spoilers' and cynics constantly at work within the political ranks. Hard as it may be at times, resisting the urge to stick our heads in the sand and disengage from the political process is the only way forward. People of goodwill must continue to remain involved.

Across The Aisle: Kicker

A most welcome return to the pages of The Cud from one 'Big' Jim Slade!

I feel Mr. Slade's frustration about HSA's but he misses one key point: if a nation such as the U.S has such considerable wealth and resources, what's wrong with at least TRYING -and in the early days there shall always be mistakes and missteps- to extend help to the poorest and most disadvantaged of America's citizens? Assuming that anyone in need of welfare or public healthcare is automatically a sponge is one of the right's greatest shortcomings.

I GET the arguments for universal healthcare. I truly do. And I blame the GOP for battering what may have been a 'cleaner', more efficient bill before they forced Obama to rip it to shreds that it might -barely- pass. At the same time, the Obama administration hasn't just had 'teething' problems with healthcare -as with the HSA's Mr. Slade speaks of- they've had some monumental bungles that have completely hurt the long term credibility and sustainability of the new healthcare bill beyond the eyes of crackpots of the likes of Sen. Ted Cruz. Obama has a year to pour more concrete on the foundations of this issue. Here's hoping he can do it.
