Across The Water

The Loaded Dog

There is a name
calling me again
Across the water, across the water

Deep in my veins
won’t let me go again
From across the water, across the water

The Clouds are rolling in
Like Lloyd Rees
on a soft day
Painting a canvas of light blue and grey

Out amongst the Monroes,
beyond these dusty plains
The pipes of Scotland
Across the water, across the water

My red beard shines history,
and history shines in names
From across the water, across the water

The Clouds are rolling in
Like Lloyd Rees
on a soft day
Painting a canvas of light blue and grey

My Ancestors like whiskey,
my folk were witches burnt at the flame
We came down from the highlands
to cross the water to cross the water

Shy of the sun,
the colour of our skin whiter than pain
We drink whiskey like water, like water

The Clouds are rolling in
Like Lloyd Rees
on a soft day
Painting a canvas of light blue and grey

All these stories,
send me whispers over the sea
All these names,
cry for who I’m supposed to be
Down below this blood,
there are thousands of years of history
From across the water, Across the water
